- We have no sports culture.
- Majority of Indian parents want their children to become engineers, doctors or government employees.
- Religions and blind faiths restrict women from pursuing sport's related careers.
- Marriage after education, finishes the sports activities of women.
- Misconception of 'damage to uterus by sports activities' still persist among lot of people in India.
- We give maximum importance to glamorous sports which bring lot of money and our interest in other sports diminishes after each Olympics.
- Political foul play in team selections.
- Lack of international quality in training and facilities.
The most prominent cause of stunted growth of sports is corruption. The money spent by government usually goes into pockets of politicians and greedy administrators. We have seen its terrifying form in 2010 Commonwealth games.
Even after 70 years of Independence, 2/3 of Indians are poor. Majority among them are deprived of nutritious food and pure drinking water. Social and economic discrimination along with corruption prevent their progress. From such communities, how do great sports persons emerge?
When the allocated fund is not properly utilized in every field, why the hell people criticizing 'Caste based reservation system' for the lack of good sports facilities in India.
It is good sign that, even after facing hardships a number of athletes with their individual efforts are forward to save the pride of our nation. It is the time to support them.
We, as a nation have dreams; but most of them remain as dreams, since we restrict ourselves only in fulfilling our individual dreams.
